Strength of materials 2
Strength of materials 1
Prerequisit for taking the course is to submit and defend semestral assignments. Prerequisite for taking the exam is to get a positive grade.
Understanding the essential laws and methods of mechanics of rigid and deformable bodies. Development of creativity and ability to independently formulate and solve engineering problems. Ability to recognize mechanical behaviour of solid deformable materials and structures. Solving statically undefined constructive systems in an elastic and plastic regions.
Student is able and competent to analyze and solve problems of mechanics of elastic deformable body, analyze and solve simple line systems (determines the state of their kinematic and static quantities, as well as their stability).
Stability of beam equilibrium, eccentric pressure of slender symmetrical columns. Torsion and torsion with bending simultaneously. Theory of thin-walled structures with opened, non-deformable cross section. Stress state in a point, stress tensor, equilibrium equations. Deformation state (strain rates) at a point, strain tensor. Determination of component displacements from known deformations, compatibility conditions. Constitutive equations. Basic and complex rheological models of material behaviour. Energy principles and theorems. Application of energy principles on beams. Elasto-plastic beam analysis. Solving statically undefined constructive systems in the elasto-plastic region. Dimensioning theories, fracture hypothesis. Dimensioning according to boundary equilibrium theory. Dynamic strength of the material.

It is compulsory to solve and defend 2 project assignments during the semester. The projects must be submitted and defended by the start of next semester. If the students do not pass colloquiums during the semester, they can take correctional colloquiums during the regular eximination period.
Interactive lectures and exercises with work on individual assignments. Consultations.
