Prerequisite / Form of prerequisites

Taken courses of Mechanics of fluids and Hydraulics

Form of prerequisites:

Presence at the classes and fullfiled pre-exam obligations

Learning objectives

Introduction to water balance principles and elements, precipitation and runoff regime, measurements and analysis of the hydrometeorological data. Introduction to hydrological analysis and calculations and their connection to applied hydraulic engineering disciplines. Earning basic knowledge for hydrological regime analysis in the watercourses.

Learning outcomes

After taken classes student is aknowledged with the water balance on the catchment and capable to individually collect and analyse basic hydrological values: precipitation analysis, water levels and runoff analysis.

Course contents

Introduction: value of water for hydraulic enginnering, water resources and civil engineering, definition and tasks of hydraulic engineering and water management. Hydrological cycle and processes within. Water balance. Water balance in accumulations. Precipitation: measurements, instruments, data processing, temporal and spatial distribution. Runoff: catchment definition, watercourse network, water level, runoff. Hydrological regime of the watercourses. Hidrometric measurements, measurements of the water levels. Flow duration curves. Summary volume curve. High waters on small ungauged catchments. Design precipitations and runoffs. Rational method. Synthetic unit hydrograph and SCS method. Application of the probability and statistics in hydrology - statistical analysis of the basic hydrological data.
