Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the calculations and processes that must be carried out during drilling wells.

Learning outcomes

Practical and theoretical knowledge of the student to be able to successfully design a well for oil or gas. Also to
design equipment and tools for well construction in all phases of well construction.

Course contents

Introductory lecture, familiarization of students with the goals and concept of the course, description of teaching and overview of teaching units, overview of recommended literature. The mechanism of crater formation with bits; Parameters affecting drilling speed; Technical indicators and mechanical drilling speed; Bits efficiency criteria; Drilling tools sticking and Fishing operations; Oilwell fishing and fishing equipment; Difficulties in the drilling process; Choice of safety equipment at the wellhead; Control of the inflow of formation fluid into the borehole; Setting the height of the column and the setting time of the cement slurry; Application of pressure on the surface at the end of cementation; Application of special cement slurries; Cementation of geothermal wells.

Teaching Methods

Teaching is performed through theoretical lectures, seminar work and colloquiums/tests. Also for students, consultations with the teacher and assistant are provided as an additional form of learning.

Specific remarks:

Students are required to attend to the classes, complete exercises, pass the colloquia and complete the final exam.
