Learning objectives

Acquaintance with the problems of solid waste disposal, types of landfills and its work.

Learning outcomes

Mastering the basic concepts of solid waste landfills. Students will be able to independently solve basic problems related to solid waste disposal, construction and operation of solid waste landfills.

Course contents

Introduction-basic concepts of solid waste and solid waste disposal; Selection of a site for the construction of a solid waste landfill; Landfill contents; Types of landfills; Organization of work on landfills; Economic and financial bases of landfills; Disposal at sanitary landfills; Disposal of high risk waste; Methane collection system; Cover or cap; Landfill gas migration; Landfill gas control systems; Landfill leachate treatment; Daily and periodic monitoring and control of water, air and soil quality at the landfill and in the vicinity of the landfill; Problems related to waste disposal; Impact of landfills on the environment; Landfill closure and landfill monitoring after closure.
